This morning while I was finishing up our Teacher Appreciation packages there was a knock at my door. Amelia and I opened the door to find two woman from my church standing outside holding cleaning buckets. My first reaction was disbelief and frustration. I insisted that they couldn't come in and was reminded that the feelings that I was having were pride. I was told that all of the woman coming to help were Grandma's and had been where I am. She explained that this was how they wanted to spend their Mother's Day weekend, serving others.
I allowed the ladies to come in but made them promise that going up stairs was off limits. I would have died if they would have seen the kids bedrooms and bathroom! Once we had come to an agreement they began to clean my home. Two more wonderful ladies showed up within the hour. I had just had surgery and was hurting still. This was such a blessing and I was truly touched by their service to me. The cleaning was wonderful, but for me having them in my home and getting to have adult conversation was the real treat for me!!
I am truly lucky to have so many wonderful examples in my life. To know that service is the way that four amazing woman want to spend their Friday morning was such a great example for me. I can't wait to pay it forward in the future.
