Berniger & Navarrette Families 1st Annual Lake Powell Vacation
Deciding to vacation somewhere you have never been before can often times be stressful and overwhelming, but if you don't take the leap then you can miss experiences and views like this!!
4 Adults and 10 Children accepted the challenge and my I just say it was life changing :) I think that Lake Powell changed us all and the question of do we do this again became how often do we get to do this in the future. I think that yearly, at least was the final vote!
Our little ones had a blast. I can honestly say that being at Lake Powell was a real vacation not only for the children, but the adults as well. The kids got along famously with their cousins and fun memories were created by all.
Adam got his first fishing pole and put it to good use each day. Uncle Troy taught him how to line his pole, put bait on his pole (Adam liked the hotdogs more than the live worms) and how to cast his line. Adam didn't catch anything, but I was very proud of his determination and dedication.
A few fish were caught though! Hunter caught the first catfish of the trip. He put it in a bucket in hopes of cleaning it the next morning. Alex found the fish early the next day and dumped the bucket. They fish had to work his way from the beach back into the water, but as he did Alex was screaming "Go Home Fish, Go Home!". Hunter was a very good sport and vowed to catch another fish before the end of the trip. He, Lindsey, Maddy and Carter all caught fish. A few were cleaned and eaten. For someone that doesn't enjoy eating fish, Dadam did a great job filleting the fish.
Hunter should be the star of his next Boy Scout Survival Camp-out!!
Days can be long on the water if you aren't creative. Lucky for us all of our little ones were very creative with their time. Amelia loved playing in the sand and creating mud pies!
Amelia also created a special friend in Spencer, she tried to stick to him like glue :) He was a good sport and let her in on a few of his adventures!! Above you can see them planting a branch (tree) together.
Adam and Carter were two peas in a pod. From fishing to playing on the rocks I always knew that one was never far from the other!
Dadam was the fire bug of the trip! He made sure that we had a fire and firewood each night. S"mores were enjoyed by all each night!!
This might be a great place to mention the amazing meals we all enjoyed while at the lake! From spaghetti and pulled pork to hamburgers and burritos our menus were YUMMY! The thought of such yummy food being partaken of while "roughing" it was such a bonus!!!
Remember me mentioning that the Adults were able to enjoy the trip as well.... It was so nice to visit a place where the kids could be themselves and as parents we weren't having to hover and make sure that all was right in the world. We were able to enjoy our time on the lake as well and in my book that is the secret a successful vacation!!
One of the kids favorite ways to spend time on the water was being pulled on the tube! They held on very well, I think that only one group of kids fell off the tube the entire week! Fears were battled and overcome, everyone rode the tube at least once.
When the kids weren't riding the tube they paddled it like a boat instead! I was happily surprised with how well they entertained themselves and the words I'm bored weren't uttered.
The last day on the water as we returned to the docks we enjoyed an amazing BBQ and relaxing final hours enjoying the amazing scenery and reminiscing over our favorite parts of the past week.
A Big Thank You to the Navarrette family for an amazing trip to Lake Powell. We can't wait for next time :)
